About the Hindu Day of Bhaiya Dooj

DESCRIPTION:
Bhaiya Dooj (Bhai Dooj, Bhau-Beej, Bhai Tika, or Bhai Phota) is a holiday celebrating sibling love.
Anticipated with great enthusiasm, Bhaiya Dooj rounds out the five days of Diwali. In the Hindu lunar calendar, it occurs during the Shukla Paksha of the Kartika month.
The origin of this celebration comes from a story about Lord Krishna slaying the evil demon Narkasur, after which he visited his sister Subhadra. She welcomed him with sweets and flowers and applied tilak (tika) on Lord Krishna’s forehead. Brothers call on their married sisters today and enjoy a feast.
